Week of October 13-17

Hey Gang!  We have another short week ahead of us, and we're diving into the Constitution headstrong!  We just looked at the Revolutionary War last week.  The war was long, hard fought, and difficult for the Patriots/Continental Army to defeat the greatest empire in the world: Great Britain.  In 1777, the Second Continental Congress wrote the Articles of Confederation, which was the first federal government.  These were the original laws of the land.  Because Britain had such a large and powerful government, the Congress agreed to create a smaller and weaker national government.  The Congress would have limited amount of powers and the states would seem to be more powerful and important.  This led to many difficulties and troubles within the new states of the new nation, and in 1787 delegates met in Philadelphia to write a create a new government:  The Constitution.  We are learning ALLLLLLL about the Constitution.  It is imperative that you watch the video podcasts this unit, and that you retain that information so you can engage in discussion.  We will read all VII Articles and learn the XXVII Amendments...
