Week of January 9-13

Hey Baby Birds, we've got a fun week ahead of us!  We'll MOVE WEST, conquer Texas and Spanish Mexico, discover GOLD, and learn about the first TEXT message in American history!

Day 1:  Presidential Projects due today! (Madison & Monroe) -- Westward Expansion in Chapter 15 -- Manifest Destiny!  Why move west?  Who moved west?  What were the effects of westward expansion?  Reading about Texas, Oregon, and the Mexican-American War.
HW:  Listen to the Podcasts:  Manifest Destiny & The 1840s  --- Current Events on 2012 Election/Debates due Jan. 17 (all classes!)


Day 2:  Texas and the Mexican War, Oregon and 54'40" or Fight! -- James K. Polk's Presidency and the nation rapidly taking the west!  1849ers and the Gold Rush! Gold Rush DVD
HW:  Presidential Projects due Jan. 20 (J.Q.Adams & Andrew Jackson!) --- Current Events on 2012 Election/Debates due Jan. 17 (all classes!)


Day 3: 1849ers and the Gold Rush! What were the effects of the Gold Rush?  How did California's gold completely transform the nation?  A TECHnology Revolution! -- Morse's Code:  The First Text Message! -- Railroad expansion -- DVD The Presidents: James K. Polk
HW:  Presidential Projects due Jan. 20 (J.Q.Adams & Andrew Jackson!) --- Current Events on 2012 Election/Debates due Jan. 17 (all classes!)  Listen to the Era of Reform I & II podcasts and write down three facts from each podcast (6 total) -- Due 1/19 ALL Classes!

***Extra Credit:  Listen to the following podcasts:  Manifest Destiny! & The 1840s.  For an additional 2 pts added on your next test, write down three things you learned from each podcast (6 total).  Blue Box this information by Wednesday, January 11 and the Social Studies gods and I will be glad to reward you for your diligence.  Be Good!
