Week of November 9-13

Well Gang...I survived Flu Week..and so did you!  Huzzah!  We move into the early 1800s and will examine the War of 1812 and James Monroe's presidency...

Day 1
In Class:  James Madison and the War of 1812 -- Reading about the nation's FIRST war and the war's impact on the young nation: Madison, Monroe, and Adams Packet -- These questions are to be answered in your notes and we will begin going over these questions on Day Two 45 min. into class.  You have today and 45 min of Day 2 to answer these Qs for our discussion...
Essential Questions for the War of 1812 (Answer them in your notes based on the reading)
-Why was the War of 1812 fought?
-What was the British objective/strategy for the War of 1812?
-How was the War of 1812 a completely different war than the Rev. War?
-Geographically, where do you think the battles were mainly fought?
-Who were the key figures of war (American & Native American)?

-What were the results of the War of 1812?
-Who were some  leaders that emerged from the War of 1812?
-What was the lowest point of the war for the Americans?  Why is this the lowest point?
-How did the War of 1812 create a national unity when it ended? How did it NOT create national unity?
-Why do you think this is called “America’s forgotten war” in history?
