Week of August 19--23

Welcome to week two baby birds!  We will colonize the new world; England style!  This week we will cover the 13 English colonies, colonial slavery, and the three different colonial regions. 

Jamestown -- The First English Colony

Day 1
In Class:  The Jamestown colony, the Powhatan Indian life, John Rolfe, John Smith, Pocahontas, the starving time, tobacco, House of Burgesses and how/why slavery enters the colonial way of life.

Day 2
In Class:  Finish Jamestown/Colonial slavery discussion ... begin working on the three colonial regions and 13 English colonies spoke-chart.  Learning the remaining 13 colonies -- Carolina, Georgia, New Amsterdam/York/Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts...yes the Pilgrims..., Connecticut, Pennsylvania... Once we finish the colonial spoke-chart, we'll compare the three regions and discuss how the colonies gradually grew "independent-ish"
