Sick...Sorry Block 1 and 7. Yes. I know you miss me. Make me a get well card.

To the Greatest Block 1 Class of the Year!

Please continue reading through the Road to Civil War Doc and answer the following Q's in your notes so we can discuss them on Friday.

1. What were the details of the Kansas-Nebraska Act and what party was formed because of it?
2. What was the purpose of the Republican party?
3. What happened in Lawrence, Kansas in 1856? (I know, Kansas, who cares, right?)
4. Who was John Brown (BTW, he is one of my favorite persons in American History)
5. After looking at the image of John Brown with the awesome beard, how is he portrayed in the image?  Does he look like a hero? A villain?  What is he holding?  Does he look a smidge crazy?
6.  There is no way things could get more violent, right?  Wrong!  What happened to Senator Charles Sumner in May 1856?
7.  What was the verdict of the Dred Scott decision?

Once you have finished these Q's, you may spend the rest of the class period working on your James K. Polk and Zach Taylor Presidential Projects.   BTW, you can use 15 A for the Day's for James K. Polk and 10 for Zach Taylor...just sayin.

Thank you for doing this for me while I am home coughing my brains out and thank you for being good for whomever is covering class today.  See you Thursday and Be Good!

To my favorite Block 7 of the year!  I am home sick today, sorry.  I know you miss me. Please do the following in class...

Read through the "Road to the Civil War"  (Click the link) and answer the following Q's in your notes so we can go over those answers on Thursday... You will need headphones for three short flicks. Ah Ah Ah!

1. Once again, what was the biggest Q the nation asked itself in the 1850s?
2. How much territory did the United States gain from Mexico after the Mexican-American War through the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo?
3. What were the details of the Compromise of 1850?  Do you think this was more beneficial to northerners or southerners?
4. Though this may be a stretch of a question, what do you think the Fugitive Slave Act reminds you of, today, in terms of a law about illegals?
5. I  have given you two movie trailers to watch.  One is about Harriet Tubman and the other is about Solomon Northup.  How are both movies about slavery but completely different premises/plots?   Harriet Tubman Movie Trailer    12 Years a Slave Trailer
6. What was Harriet Beecher Stowe's book, Uncle Tom's Cabin about?
7. How do you think the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 created problems in the United States?  Watch the flick here too!  Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 TEDed
8. What was the purpose of the Republican Party?

Once you have finished these Q's, you may spend the rest of the class period working on your James K. Polk and Zach Taylor Presidential Projects.   BTW, you can use 15 A for the Day's for James K. Polk and 10 for Zach Taylor...just sayin.

Thank you for doing this for me while I am home coughing my brains out and thank you for being good for whomever is covering class today.  See you Thursday and Be Good!
