Imperialism & WWI Test Friday - April 5

Imperialism Unit Q's 1-3 due Mon. April 1
  1. What is imperialism, and how did the United States become an imperial nation in the late 19th century?  What is one positive and one negative aspect of imperialism?  Why do you think the United States felt it was important to create an imperial nation?  Do you think they needed to/should have? What territories were added to the United States from 1865-1900?  Do you think imperialism is as simple as saying “invading one nation & conquering the land?”

  2. Provide four ways Americans united to support World War I even after President Wilson declared to keep the United States out of war in his 1916 campaign.

  3. What did Woodrow Wilson mean when he said he wanted to, “make the world safe for democracy?”  Do you think this was realistic and do you think it was the United States’ place to get involved with that as their goal?

  1. How did the government “violate” Americans’ rights and freedoms?  How did this set a precedent for future wars in terms of government censorship?  Do you think the US government had the right to do such things?

  2. How were Blacks impacted by World War I?
