Week 32: April 24-28, 2k23

My little 8th graders, oh how I miss you...Eh...Have a good week without me. I'm in DC. Remember DC?

Here is your week...

Please read through & watch the flicks in the Roaring 20s Doc.  Yes, READ IT...Yes, WATCH the flicks.  Answer the Crimson Q's at the beginning of the Doc in your notebooks.  I will collect these notebooks on Friday.  The Q's are also below...

You will need headphones for these Google Docs.  Please, I'm serious, work alone.  Do not work with a friend...I'm serious.

  1. Warren G. Harding was the first president of the 1920s. He campaigned to the nation that he would help America “return the country to normalcy.” What do you think “return to normalcy” meant(Think about what we just talked about in the unit before….)
  2. What was a “flapper” and why was this woman different from women of previous generations...Are there “flapper-style” women around today?... How would you say yes or no to this question? (opinionated)
  3. What did “The Jazz Age” mean & what were some of the effects of the jazz club/Jazz Age?  Do you think our lives are still influenced by this “Jazz Age”?  How so?
  4. F. Scott Fitzgerald called it a time when “the parties were bigger, the pace was faster, the buildings were higher, the morals looser”  What do you think Fitzgerald meant by this?
  5. After reading about Al Capone and watching the video in that section (Beer Wars) what type of person was Al Capone and how did the Beer Wars change the cities of America?  Do you think Al Capone did more good than bad?  Why do you think ordinary people respected and liked Al Capone?
  6. If you dig deep and think about it, we live in a Roaring Twenties age as well.  After reading ALL about the Roaring Twenties, from music, consumerism, the car, lifestyle, sports, etc… How do we live a Roaring Twenties lifestyle? (You gotta dig DEEP to answer this Q)

When finished with the Roaring 20s Q's, I'd love for you to read about a glorious time in American history: The Great Depression.  Read through the Doc and watch the flicks!  Yes, the flicks, too!

Answer the Q’s below (typed).  Please type it, MLA Format, 12 Font, Times New Roman, and PRINT IT by the end of the week.  DO NOT EMAIL IT TO ME!  We got printers at school ya know!  This is due Friday by the end of class!  PRINTED and on my desk.

Each Q is worth 10 points and will be graded on content, grammar, and accuracy.  This is a Quiz Grade.
  1. What were the contributing factors to the Great Depression & explain the difficulties Americans faced during the Depression.
  2. How did President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal programs attempt to get the nation out of the Great Depression?  What were three programs successful in getting jobs in an attempt to get out of the Depression?  Why was it a good idea for FDR to create the many government programs during the Great Depression?  What might be a reason these New Deal programs were not a good idea?  Did the New Deal programs help everyone?
  3. Look at every image in this Doc.  There are over 40 images.  Choose three images you think best illustrates or explains the Great Depression.  Copy those images, fit them all on the same page.  Yes, I want the three images on ONE page. Then, explain why you think these are the best images that illustrate the Great Depression and the events that happened at this time (whether good or bad - 3 sentences minimum each image)
When finished with the above work...There's always the Final Xam Study Guide!  Have a good time!
