Hey #Davis8!  Sorry I am not with you today for I am with #Davis7 on a field trip.  Today is a work day on the Road to Civil War short essay.  If you were not in class on Friday, January 26 or if you were in Block 1, that missed class you will need to watch the short video podcast below (in fact you should all watch it).  The video explains what we covered in class plus a writing assignment due Friday, February 2, 2k18.




Road to Civil War Writing Assignments... 2 Quiz Grades
Choose one of the following two writing prompts from below and provide a short persuasive essay answering the question...

1. Explain in detail the following contributing factors that led to the Civil War.   You must use the following items in your essay and you may not use an outside sources.  Use only your notes.

Mizzouri Compromise          John Brown          Compromise of 1850          Uncle Tom's Cabin

2. Explain who John Brown was and whether you think John Brown was a hero, a villain, or maybe both based on his beliefs and actions.  You may only use the links below and notes from class.  You do not need to cite any work


This is a typed essay in MLA format.  No cover page needed.  You may NOT write in the first person.  The essay may not be any longer than two pages typed, double spaced, Times New Roman, one-inch margins.  

-5 points if not in MLA format
-5 points if not one-inch margins, or double spaced, or 12 Font Times New Roman
-5 points if longer than two pages
-5 points if written in the first person at any point during the essay
