Week of March 10--14

Hey Gang!  We've discussed Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Morgan, Edison, Rockefeller, and how their disgusting wealth transformed America.  Now, we need to look at their effects on the "average" American.  We're entering the Progressive Era and an age of Muckraking where we'll see "How the Other Half Lives..."

Day 1
In Class: Today is another Research Paper or Presidential Project work day...WORK HARD and Enjoy It!  Congrats to the students in the Musical!  Well done!
HW:  Google Form HW and Presidential Projects -- Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, and Harrison...due Friday, March 14.
Notes:  President Research Paper due March 21.  

Day 2
In Class: What are the effects of urbanization?  American inventions and innovations 1870--1900s.... Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives...Muckraking...Immigration to the United States 1880--1920, and the American Experience in American cities...
Answering the Following Questions on Immigration from Chapter 26:
1.  Where did most immigrants settle and why did they settle there?
2.  By 1890, where did most immigrants come from?
3.  Why did many Russian Jews immigrate to the US?
4.  What jobs did most Jews have when they arrived to America?
5.  What do you think was most difficult for immigrants when they arrived in America? (answer not in the book)

Day 3
In Class: The Gilded Age comes to a close...Immigration and the Progressive Era 1900--1920.  What was the Progressive Era?
