Week of October 8--12

Hey Baby Birds!  This is the last of our short weeks and we will NOW ENTER THE ELECTION 2012 UNIT!!!
 
Monday & Tuesday:  No School Simcha Torah!
 
Wednesday, October 10
In class:  Finish Revolutionary War...Introduce 2012 Election unit.  What is government?  What are elections?  Why do we have them?  What are the requirements to run for public office?  Why vote?  Does my vote count?  Who should be able to vote?..Clearly, it's a lot of class discussion this unit!
HW:  "Government, Say What?" handout due Friday, October 12

Thursday, October 11

Who should be able to vote?..Clearly, it's alot of class discussion this unit!  Donkeys or Elephants discussion...A few BrainPop videos on the election
HW:  Watch the Vice Presidential debate videos, or read an article about the Vice Presidential Debate and write up a summary of what you saw.  Be Specific:  What did the candidates wear?  How comfortable did they look on camera?  Did the smile alot? Frown alot? Raise their voice?  Seem passionate about any particular subject?  Who sounded or debated better?  Why is this?  What color were their ties? :) -- Summary due Monday, October 15

In class:  Debates discussion, SNL weekend update videos - what are they, why does SNL make them, do they really influence the voters?  How does social media affect the elections?
