Welcome Back Class of 2012-2013!

Welcome back Baby Birds!  This is your blog.  Here is where you will find all the information about your 8th grade social studies class with me, Mr. Barry!  Here is what the first week of school looks like...

Day 1:  Welcome back!  Quiz, US Geography, Syllabus...
HW:  Get syllabus signed by a parent/guardian by Friday, US Map & Georgia Map due Friday.
Notes:  US Geography test on Friday

US Geography Test Label the following:  Mississippi R, Mizzouri R, St Lawrence R, Rio Grande R.  Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Great Salt Lake, Lake Huron, Erie, Superior, Michigan & Ontario.  All 50 states...The following cities:  Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Savannah, Charleston SC, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Nashville, Denver, Richmond, New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, Detroit, Washington DC, & Dallas
Day 2:  Syllabus.  Introduction to US Geography and history...Where do we begin?  Looking at the United States

Day 3:  US Geography and European Exploration & Colonization.  Why colonize?  What is a colony?  What is the purpose of exploring and colonizing? Who colonized?

Day 4:  US Geography Test!  Introduce current events and assign first current events.  Colonization and settling this "new world"...
