When I was your age, I watched a lot of TV shows about school. I watched Saved By The Bell, The Secret World of Alex Mack and Boy Meets World. I always wondered what it would be like to be a teacher watching these shows because I could easily relate to the students; I was one after all!
When I was a 10th grader at Riverwood High School I had a teacher who taught me much more than just Language Arts. He taught me about who I was and about what I wanted to do with my life. I had a coach at Riverwood who taught me more than just track and field; he taught me to love something. Since 10th grade, I've always wanted to be a teacher and a coach. I made it my personal goal and mission to become a teacher and a coach.
In college and graduate school, they teach you about how to be a teacher, but they really don't teach you how to be yourself as a teacher. That, you learn on your own as you go. You learn about what you know, what you don't know, what you're good at, and what you need to improve on as a teacher and a person. I will likely spend more than half of my entire life in a school, and to me, that is satisfying and exactly what I wanted my life to be when I was a child...
It was my dream at 16 years old to be a teacher and a coach, and now, I can thank you for being a part of that dream that has now become my wonderful life. You have all walked into it, and you will forever be a part of it whether you believe it or not.
