If you're Block 2 & 3, I am not in today, so you've got some readin' to do!  Actually, every class is doing this, but Block 2 & 3 is doing this without my amazing presence.  Sorry & maybe, you're welcome?

Destructions:  Please read the American Revolution doc (Click me!) -- Pages 5-15... & answer the following Q's in your notebook for a HW grade due Monday, Sept. 11.  

  1. How did the British government decide to pay off the French & Indian War debt?
  2. Why did the British feel it was OK to tax the British colonists? 
  3. Why did Parliament lower the tax on sugar in 1764?  
  4. What was the purpose of the Quartering Act?  Why do you think the colonists disliked this act, but why was this act "good" for Great Britain? (gotta think about this one...)
  5. Ugh...The Stamp Act.  In 1765, Parliament passed the Stamp Act.  What did this act tax?
  6. What group formed because of the Sugar Act, Quartering Act, & Stamp Act, and who were these people?
  7. What does "taxation without representation" mean?
  8. What were three things the colonists did in response to the different acts passed by Parliament?
  9. If you look at the window in my classroom, you'll see an effigy.  Effigies are pretty cool.  What is an effigy?  
  10. Watch the John Adams Tar & Feather video.  Yeah, it's kinda gross, I get it.  What is happening to the tax collector in this flick?  Why do you think the colonists did this to tax collectors?
  11. Why do you think some historians call Sam Adams the "Moses of the Revolution"?
  12. What did the Townshend Acts of 1767 tax?  Why do you think the British repealed the Stamp Act, but then passed these acts instead
  13. The colonists lived way better lives in the colonies than their counterparts back in Great Britain.  How did they live better?
  14. Explain what writs of assistance were -- put this in your own words based off the explanation.  
  15. The Boston Massacre is pretty self explanatory...or is it?  Tell me how the Boston Massacre was not a massacre, but why people thought  it was a massacre...C'mon...give me some details, here.  Please?!  Thanks!

This is a Homework Assignment due Sept. 22 -- The day of the Second Cont. Congress

 

Huzzah!  You have been assigned a delegate to the Second Continental Congress that is set to meet in Philadelphia in May 1775!  Based on the colony summary, colonial region summary, and the biography in the “56 Signers” text, you are to answer the following Q’s in a minimum of one  paragraph.


Q’s to be answered in a minimum of one paragraph!


  1. What is your delegate's name & what colony are you from? If you can find this, what is your job/occupation?

  2. What does your colonial history look like? (brief summary of a sentence or two)

  3. Is your colony mostly patriotic, loyal, or moderate according to the colony summary?

  4. Do you (your delegate) believe the colonists should remain loyal to Great Britain? – This is an inference-based Q that you should answer based on our discussions & your readings about the colonists and your delegate

  5. What do you think would be the best way to fix the problems between Great Britain and the 13 colonies?
